VoR here, and I'm back with a JUICY and VERY BOLD yet new topic. How the REAL DB/DBZ movies will look. Meaning;
NO Fantasy Cast NO Fanfic Storylines (Yeah I'm taking the fun out of it) NO NO NO NO NO
What do you really think or dread that they will take out of the series? What you think they will change? For some of you you might have to face your fears. You have to face them sooner or later. You may as well face them now. Also discuss how some of these things you feel that they might change or take out may hurt a LAM series. For all who are interested I would like to hear your input.
Me being a film student, I tend to analyz major film projects and look at these type of things all the time. So this time since were all DB/DBZ fans here instead of doing this by myself I open this up to everyone. I will continue to add new variables to this thread (that is still apart of the main theme) so as to add a little more SPICE/BITE to this topic. So have at it ladies and gents.

1) All of the names will be changed to lame, common American names a la John, Nick, Wendy, etc.
2) The director will cast as cheap as possible, bringing in as many sci-fi allstars from the WB and UPN networks making sure not to accidentally get any real actors.
3) Special effects will involve lots of camera shaking and people running around while paper rocks are dropped on them.
4) Worst fear of all: re-using lines from the FUNimation rewrite of the dialogue.

^Nooooooo! Please, don't say that... I know the most probably won't make this movie perfect, but not that bad either. What I fear is: 1.It's going to have really cheezy moments. 2.The cast won't be the best thing ever...probably they will hire actors known for fighting skills rather than acting skills. 3.They will get a director that has poor visionary talent... 4.The soundtrack will have Linkin Park in it... And somethings I don't fear but I think will probably happen: 1.They will change the story line a lot. 2.It will start with DBZ. 3.They will also change the costumes and hairstyles a lot. 4.It will end up being just another blockbuster. Nothing to be remembered for ages.

Both of you make some very valid points. I know a lot of people fears that they will total Americanize the whole thing making many changes to it. Well I believe that is one thing that we don't have to worry about. Here's my three reasons;
1. No movies have been made yet. If my memory serves me correctly in '02 they were talking about putting this movie on a fast track and releasing it in about a year. They haven't, they're taking there time on with it. Which is a good thing.
2. Fox is about to lose one of its biggest cash cow, the Star Wars series. Plus X-Men is on it's third movie. Trust me, they will try to fill that void. DB/DBZ will be the perfect fit. Out of every thing that is under their studio's to be made. That's a plus.
3. Majority of the live action films that many companies have come out with........whether it be v. games, comic series, or cartoon/anime. They haven't veered to far off of the main story one of those. As well as they have tried to keep the characters true to the original as possible. That's a plus, yet can also be a minus.
Reason three can be good and bad. Animes and novels are not that different when it comes to turning them into films. They both already have a list of characters, a plot, and a setting. The problem lies in how what ever crew that is chosen to work on them interprets them. Movies are not thing more than a short summary of what the novel or anime is about. So the direction of the movie is chosen by the director/screenwriter chosing what they feel is important in the story and what is exspendable. So 2 1/2 positives out of 3 ain't bad for the DB/DBZLAM project.

I understand what you trying to say.
The DB/DBz serie is not like other TV series or comics. As a fan you should know that. My greatest knightmare is that the movie makers will missing the 'thing'. The 'thing' that made all of us (millions) fanatic fans of the series.
In my opinion the serie is certenly not a flat thing were we deailing with. It has several levels.
The power of the DBZ anime lay in the way of telling the story. for example: In the beginning it shall (must) be told by an storyteller (the people must step in the world) .There are very much scenes with thinking voices and doubtfull minds . The camera movements must be very exciting when the beams get away and the mountains get cracked and Goku escapes with fast flying etc...We got to be hit with this ride of action of never before scenes!!!!!!
There are also much Sergio Leone scenes (for a few dollars mores, the good bad and ugly and a fistfull of dollars) . Close ups of (as they step in) of feet or eyes. Empteness of streets like in 'after 28 days'. Scary scenes of murderings of Freeza victims wich must be an very big bastard with much demon acts. Its important that the public understands the problem and feel why Goku must standup to defend the Earth.
The score is also very very very important!! The score must give the movie an heart so that the emotions will be more expressed and more recognised by the public.
I hope that we will be kicked on all fronts (production, directing, story, screenplay, action, score, acting, art, special effects, sound effects, visual - sound editing, costume-makeup designs) with much recognising and much surpises.
But for the story there are always major things: - The history of Planet Vegeta with the escape of Goku and the hostile of Vegeta is major and must be in the storyline of Freeza - The story of Capsule Corperation - the family storyline of Goku and Chi-Chi vs Vegata and Bulmar - the character Piccalo and only his history on namek - the 100% naieve goodness of Goku with the drive to fight to become better so he can save the world on and on versus the proud and bright badness of Vegeta who always be second best and joints Goku for his own reasons must be the very red line in the movies. - the evilness of Freeza and his army and all other enemies - the story of the sons of Goku and Vegita - the power sublevels between SSJ1 and 2 - the desperate fight of Vegeta is very Major - the relation/story between Gohan and Piccolo

You right as a I fan should and do know that DB/DBZ is different from all other animes and comics. As well as I see that you misunderstood what I was saying. I know that for one major reason it shatters all boundaries. Many anime/comic creators make a lot of fantasy things in their creations but they gave them limits. DBZ has no limits, it will go as far as anyone wants to take it. To go back over what I was saying earlier is that animes/comic book series (keyword is SERIES, you know continuing plots/storylines) are feeled with so much stuff and pretty much has a lot of reoccurring themes. Mainly just to drag the story on an on an on an on an on an on an on an on.............................so on an so forth. So before they can start working on anything they have to weed out all the garbage first (all the reoccurring events) because on the big screen things tend to get old kinda fast. An as a fan wall know that the DB/DBZ series is filled with a lot of reoccurring event/themes. So thus a lot of characters will not be in the movies *cough* (possible the ginyu force) because of the same things happening over and over again. Things like that will drag the movie along. They also may put a few boundaries in it to help simplify the story (example: can not make the same wish more than once). I'm also pretty sure that only the characters that really have something to offer in the main plot/storyline of DB/DBZ will be in the movie.
I know I'm probably going to catch a lot of crap from this but I believe that the Android/Cell movie should be split in 2. Because there is to much stuff going on in those sagas to try to cram it all into 1 movie. Also if they do start with the Piccolo saga for the first movie then they should also have the red ribbon army in it as well (they ofcourse are not a threat but there is hints/rumors about them building an android army....to give Android/Cell movies purpose). Last is that the Majin Buu movie shouldn't be made. Because it will make light of Goku's sacrifice at the end of the Cell movie. Which will not be taken serious on the big screen.

Ok man slow down. that is how you think and you could be right at some parts but dbz is big. and to change something like you can only wish same wish once than dbz wouldnt be dbz. They can change some stuff like trunks sword wont look exacly like in anime but it will be like it is same. and i know that it is hard to put 1 saga in to 1 movie and they probably will put just cell saga in to one movie. lord of the rings was like 3 or 4 movies but after 1st movie others started like epesode. just add on and story goes on.Each one of dbz movies has to be 3.5 h to 4 houers long.

Listern to you all this is going to be the best movie ever, there is nothing bad about DBZ. (Not even GT). It doesn't matter whether they are unknown actors all that matters is that they are cool fighters. and also the script if they change it then good because it will be a welcome change we all know the story lines by now surely some changes will be good and enoyable to see

Ahhh... I really wish I could see Vegeta break down for his son though I am with you there. There are so many things in the majin buu saga that I would love to see in a live action movie, but unfortunatly I don't think they would or even should do it. It just doesn't have anything concrete to stand on. I can tell that they were just searching for a means/reason to continue the series. I talked about that in one of my previous post. I'm a huge fan of the anime (which I do think that some people on here believe I am not because of the post that I made in here) but as big of a fan I am I know that a lot of changes must be made in order for it to become a successful film series. I know it's going to need a jolt of class and some limitations for it to really be taken serious. Without limitations (which we know that db/z/gt doesn't have) things like death, tragedy, anything that is supposed to spark an emotional response will not be taken seriously because of the nature of the show. Simply put they makes a mokery of it. And people if you think for a second that a mainstream crowd would not mind substituting some class, some stability, and some limitations for abunch of mindless action then you kidding yourselves. The one thing that I want more than anything for this film series is that it is successful, and for all the people who never understood why we love the show so much. Would finally understand why, and a whole knew crop of db/z/gt fans are born. I hope you all truly understand the points that I am trying to convey to you and think that I am just an idiot who knows nothing about the series. Just to let you know I originally hated the idea of a live action movie because I knew that they were going to have to change a lot of things, but change can at times be good.
