Nice find... Its interesting to see what sort of games the Japs are into... Personally, i wouldnt buy many of those games in the chart, but thats me... Its a shame really...The "good" games dont seem to sell well in Japan either... MGS3 is much better than say...Dragon Quest, yet its not doing too well... The console sales also shows how well Sony are doing in Japan and the DS is doing quite well as well... Also shows that M$ need to pull their finger out for next gen regarding Japan.

Personally, i'd say they have quite bad taste when it comes to game quality... They only seem to be interested in anime style games, which is why Nintendi has such a wide appeal in Japan.

Haha the most of the Japanese are not fond of the XBOX. No sh1t sherlock... The JAPS are a stuborn bunch. They do not like westerners at all and will NOT buy western products. The fact that Xbox is a western console and made by the money hungry American Bill Gates is the main reason its been a failure in Japan. Personally, i think its a weakness of the japs, as we have embraced their products and way of thinking, and respect them, yet they are too stuborn and tradional to embrace western products... Their lose really. They are missing out on the best console in my opinion.

Their lose really. They are missing out on the best console in my opinion. That statement is somewhat flawed Shadow... It's FAR from the truth that the Japanese don't embrace western products. I've actually had the oppurtunity to travel there years ago and I clearly remember their downtown and plaza areas completely cluttered with Levi, Brittney Spears, Mcdonalds, Pepsi, and Tommy Hillfiger advertisements. Bottom line is, the western community is quite postively reflected in Japan, it's the Xbox however that hasn't been accepted. Quite frankly it doesn't associate their needs other than the fact that it's huge( in Japanese taste) and software wise it doesn't cater to the Jap market. Gamecube and PS2 beat Xbox out in Japan because they are backed by major Japanese developers, Square, Konami, Capcom, Bandai (although their quality is def. questionable) and others. While Xbox is left with failing Sega support and sometimes helpful Tecmo titles. However, let's say in a crazy alternate universe the Xbox was to exclusively have Final Fantasy and even more importantly Dragon Quest it would be a reckonable force, but do to the fact that too many titles on Xbox are more westernized, they tend to contain material that Japanese can't relate with. In other words Shadow, think of your dislike for Gamecube and that's pretty much Japan's opinion on xbox.

In other words Shadow, think of your dislike for Gamecube and that's pretty much Japan's opinion on xbox. I dont dislike GC at all. I dislike its attitude and its lack of 3rd party software doesnt help. As for your statements, they are mostly true. The major concern is the software. Xbox doesnt have any software except from a few developers that interest the Japanese. This was due to Xbox being a new console and developers didnt know how well it would do. The design for Xbox also doesnt help considering people want stylish consoles under their TV's, not somthing that looks like an 80's VCR... Its far too late for Xbox now in Japan, but M$ will have learnt from its mistakes and will correct them when it comes to Xbox 2. Square Enix have already said they will develop games for Xbox 2. Which franchaise they will use is unsure, but thats a great start. Another factor is that the Xbox is American made and the Japanese do not like Americans at all. I guess its like the UK not liking the French... That is a factor that can be broken with good design and great software.

No matter what gaming culture you may live in, pure quality and sheer fun will break through any barrier. So if the Xbox 2 can truly back it's promises of being an exciting new machine supported by big Japanese developers, Microsoft will truly be an excellent competitor in all regions.

good to see that the SP is still selling excellently, even with teh ds out.
wtf is SC?
reasons i love japan: 1) their love of all things megaman! 2) love of bomberman 3) vending machines of beer down streets in tokyo.
