Today continues and finishes my personal look over 2005 and what we can expect to really rock our worlds this year. If your a gamer, rest assure that 2005 will not leave you hanging, and while there's over 100 reasons why I could list this year would be great, I've decided to save and spare your minds and eyes so much information to proccess and instead opted to refine my ideals into the 6 best things I think you should look out for. So let's get this show rockin'!
3. LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!!!
For almost 2 decades Nintendo has been the undisputed portable gaming champion. All competitors that have stepped in the ring with them have been met with nothing but the cold, horrible taste of defeat. Nokia, NeoGeo and even the formidable Sega have all taken their chances against Nintendo and in the end looked more like victims rather than competition...until now.
With the introduction of the PSP Nintendo has finally met formidable competition that comes directly from the hands of there archnemesis Sony. Almost 11 years ago Sony walked into the console arena and stripped Nintendo of it's dominance in the market and has never looked back. But now things are different, Sony is walking into a field that has been Nintendo's stomping ground for decades. Now while nobody knows how successful the PSP or DS is going to be, one things for certain, there battle is going to mean great things for gamers this year! Here's a quick look over some hot games coming out for both systems this year. For more info on the systems head over to the equally awesome Nintendo DS: Defined (made by me) and Sony PSP: Overview ( made by Shadow) for more details.
Nintendo DS
Commercially 2004 was a fantastic year for the DS, with huge sales in both Japan and Nintendo the DS was red hot. However, software wise was definitely questionable, the rush to get the DS hitting the streets left it with a somewhat lacking launch lineup. However, 2004 is gone and 2005 is here, and the DS is looking absolutely appetizing. Here's what will be hot on the DS.
The Good:
Tapping the Nintendo DS's real power:
Many right now really see the DS's touch screen and other features as...gimmicky. However, 2005 is set to show to the public that the DS really is the change in gaming it was stated to be. With things such as being able to download content from a movie to unlock things in it's corresponding game is just cool stuff and the usage of voice recognition in games and being able to download games off the internet has alot current DS owners psyched.
Nintendo's DS may just give you a reason to go and sit through another one of those mediocre Pokemon movies, with promising unlockables or maybe even knew critters to train at your leisure.
The Better
Wifi-Multiplayer Gaming
Many gamers experienced there first time with wireless multiplayer gaming for the first time last year when they received their Nintendo DS's and it was an instant hit. Titles sucha Metroid Prime Hunters and Mario 64 have provided some DS gamers with countless rounds of enjoyment and should continue too as even new and better games are being developed for the format. However, the question remains. How long do we have to wait before the DS goes online? Then we could see some really amazing titles...Super Smash Bros. Online anyone?
While Mario alone has always provided gamers with countless years of enjoyment alone, the 4-player mayhem in the DS version of Mario 64 was phenomenal. But that will only be the beginning of DS's multiplayer revolution.
The Awesome
The Games
If there's one thing Nintendo knows how to make, it's games and the DS won't be lacking in this field with such awesome titles from mainstay franchises such as Mario, Zelda, F-Zero there will be the inevitable introduction of new material and with 3rd-party companies throwin in games such as Konami's Castlevania and Namco's super trio of Xenosaga, Baten Kaitos and Soul Calibur. Things should really get rocking.
If you've ever want to be Maxi and kick Astaroth's butt on the go, than you'll be able to do just that in the recently confirmed Soul Calibur DS version that's been confirmed for later this year.
Sony Playstation Portable
Hands down the meanest, sleekest, most powerful handheld to grace the industry. That's right we're talking about the Playstation Portable here my friends. A handheld with graphical capabilities of the Playstation 2, the ability to play DVD's and download mp3's. True, Sony's first endeavor in the handheld arena is a geniously made piece of hardware, but the question remains, how hot will the system truly be in '05 when going up against the awesome plans Nintendo has in stored for the DS? Well to help you answer that question here's whats happening on the little playstation.
The Good
Easy Multimedia On The Go!
Mimicking with what made the PS2 such a success, Sony has opted to inject a little bit of everything into the PSP to make more of a multimedia machine than a purebred gaming system. Sony has stated that the PSP is the new walkman of this generation and quite frankly its hard to argue with them and with a rumored reasonable price tag of only $150, alot of gamers may agree with Sony as well.
You'll be able to get all your Cloud/Final Fantasy action on the go this year when Square releases the new Final Fantasy: Advent Children movie for the PSP[/size]
The Better
The Biggest PS2 Games...Bitesized
All the games that made the PS2 so popular will most likely find themselves in some shape or form on the PSP. Metal Gear and Ridge Racer are already out and confirmed Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry are well on there way, is there anything more you can ask for?
The game that singe-handedly brought in an overabundance of casual gamers to the industry will see a portable version on the PSP. Sony's hoping this will get PSP's selling, politicans on the other hand aren't as optimistic.
The Hot
Handheld's Can't Do That!!!
While Nintendo is tinkering with changing the way we play, Sony is set on expanding what has already been established and magnify it. When the mass public truly see the capabilities of both portables and what they're capable of producing, they'll be floored. While, I'm totally stoked on the titles coming out on the DS, the possibilites of what things can look and play like on the PSP has me absolutely hooked to what Sony announces next for the PSP. Whatever they do I'm sure it'll be awesome and the PSP will noticeably benefit from the skilled master minds over there at Sony.
2. THE POWER OF X2[/I]
In 2001 Microsoft released to the world it's first endeavor in the console business, the Xbox. Almost 4 years and 18 million consoles sold later, Microsoft is posed to show to the world what the power of X is truly all about...
The successor to the Xbox, deemed Xbox II or Xenon by most gamers is scheduled to hit the shelves of a local reatiler near you by the end of this year. While Nintendo and Sony will arrive fashionablly late in 2006. With the Xbox II Microsoft will be ushering a new age of gaming that hopefully will be the era we've all been waiting for. Admit it, while this gen. was spectacular; it could have been a lot more epic, and this next round of consoles may be the ones to push videogaming over the top. However, with Microsoft out of the gates first alot is riding on them to show the public that videogaming is not getting old or stale, but only just beginning! Here's the hottest things I think the Xbox II will bring this year.
The Good
Just How Powerful Is X?
Over the past few months there has been an overabundance of Xbox 2 specs being leeked all over the net. While things like this are usually to be taken with a grain of salt, these specs. have had the very uncommon attribute of holding truth in them! These spec sheets display a console that is unparalled in power and can render images that look undeniablly real, what does that mean, well take a look for yourself:
