The first anime I saw was DBZ. My friend's brother was in Japan and sent home an unsubbed tape as a gift. We didn't understand a word of it but we watched the whole thing through and loved it. I don't remember how old I was. It was shortly after DBZ came out in Japan.
The first anime that I saw in english was Sailor Moon. It was playing right before DBZ(which was the 2nd anime I saw in english) and I watched to kill some time.

To tell you the truth pokemon is the best translatet anime where i live.(good voices and humor) Almost all of the others dident get much affort's, even DBZ sucks in my language. (1. 60-70% of the time they don't say a thing. 2. when they say something its garbedge like "I am the great Son Goku, now you are going to die" where it should had been "Allyed to good, Nightmare to you." 3. DBZ is targeting 5-8 years old here

I can't even remember anymore. It was either Dragon Ball when Fox aired it in 1995 or Samurai Pizza Cats and Speed Racer (that was an anime right?) when they were on YTV (The only Canadian channel Anime seems to be on...though now that I think about I only watch DB/Z/GT on that channel:p).

I asked around my school this question and many people reply with an "Yugi-oh" or "pokemon" , how are people suppose to fall in love with anime when they see that j/k But the people who answer Yugi-oh or Pokemon , I then asked them do they still like anime? and they usually and most of the time answered with a no. But with the people who answer with Yuyu Hakusho or Dragon Ball Z or Inuyasha or Hellsing or Full Metal Alchemist , I asked them if they still like anime? and they answered "H*ll ya" ;D

No real surprise there you can't really expect people to get hooked on anime unless they start out with a cool show like the ones you listed. I think I said this before. Pokemon and Yugi-oh seem to attract the young ones that like the whole thing. And YYH, DBZ, Hellsing and FMA , you know the ones that contain some action seem to attrat adults and teens. My list on good first time animes 1. Yuyu Hakusho 2. Dragon Ball Z 3. Hellsing 4. Inuyasha 5. Full Metal Alchemist 6. All Gundam 7. Ghost in the Shell 8. Kenshin

mine was speed racer, although i didn't know it was anime. the first anime that i actually REALIZED was an anime was thundercats. ah, brings back memories Thundercats? isent that the one with tebone and racer? The mecanics who builds there own plane out of scrap? If it is that was a good one 2 elseway i dont know the show. To what Hieislove just wrote: Its sad that many people dont realise the diffrences in anime. The major part of the people i know thinks that all animes is like Pokemon & yugioh Most of them stops watching animes when the turn 13-15 without knowing the true "colours" of anime.

i don't think those were the names of the thundercats. it was more like liono and cheetara. and most of those animes hieislove listed are my favorites. right now i've been watching a hell of alotta fma and ghost in the shell. reason being because they're on adult swim right now and i can't get enough of them. by the way, did the second season of ghost in the shell SAC start yet in japan ? i heard it was coming out soon
