It's pretty obvious that genres come and go. In the seventies we had heavy metal, in the early eighties we had thrash metal, in the late eighties and early nineties we had grunge, and since the mid - nineties it's been nu - metal. But nu - metal is starting to die out. So my question is, what do you think comes next? My guess is post - hardcore (or emo, depends on what you want to call it.) because of the recent batch of post - hardcore bands; Finch, Thrice, Fightstar, Funeral For A Friend etc. What do you all think? (If you can't tell, I'm just trying to keep the music board alive)

Oi...If "post-hardcore", as you like to call it, takes over, I will run away from home and cross the border to Mexico.
You are only thinking in terms of rock. The dominating music of the charts is rap/pop. Mostly rap. Or, crap, as it should be called.
Really, I think people are now smart enough to look into the indie bands and foreign bands that have their genre of music that they like. But, sadly, where I live...this isn't true. Like I said, most around here are Christians, so they will only listen to Christian Death Metal, at the very hardest. Which isn't hard at all. And yet most of what I hear is "Oh, have you checked out that new Switchfoot/Jessica Simpson CD?"
Then again, there are those harder rockers, who listen to the classics like Deep Purple and AC/DC...
And then the people who like country, because this is Oklahoma...
Once again, I say Oi. And in a sad way.

Yeah, I'm thinking in terms of rock. Sorry. Probably should have said.

Rap WILL die. Some day kids will see how any shmo can rap, and be cool.
As far as whats to come...I just hope everything doesn't get all "electronica"..
It takes even less brains to program some beats and call it music...and I'm not talking about like techno...well, I am..but I just don't want musicians to get lazy and forget how to f*ckin play.

Fair enough. Anyways, I doubt music will get any heavier than it is now. 'Cause I don't think that's even possible.

'Post-Hardcore'? Right... Emo is dying already. There ain't many Emo bands left in the south. Plus they suck... In my area Punk is enjoying a resurrection. Ranging from F-Minus style Hardcore Punk to Lightyear style Punk Ska. Its all good. As for your decade of music thing at the top DarkPrince... well, more research next time please.
