Variety reports that the hit Japanese animated film Kiki's Delivery Service is being remade by Walt Disney's Buena Vista Motion Picture Group. Oscar-winner Hayao Miyazaki directed the original film, which was based on Eiko Kadano's series of books.
Jeff Stockwell (The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) has been hired to script the English-language remake. Susan Montford and Don Murphy have reteamed with LXG's Mark Gordon to produce Kiki.
Variety reminds us that Kiki's "follows 13-year-old witch Kiki who moves to the city with her talking cat Jiji where she lands a job in the local bakery. But Kiki's powers are not refined, and the adventures and scrapes she gets into show she has a lot of growing up to do."
