I've been importing subtitled Inuyasha dvd's from Japan for a long time now. In my opinion, the dubbing in the American version is awful, both the lines the characters have to say, and the actual acting. The terms aren't so great either (they're not really "demons")
ANYWAY, as some may know, when a popular manga is made into an anime, sometimes the anime catches up to the manga. A new episode is made every week in the year, and a new 18-page chapter also comes out every week of the year.
In the case of Dragonball, they put in so much filler that they managed to never catch up in ten years.
In the case of Rurouni Kenshin, they caught up to the manga, and then the anime writers created their own shoddy second half of the series after the Shishio story arc.
And in the case of Inuyasha, when the anime caught up to the manga, they...ended it right there!
Yes, the series has ended in Japan, but the story has been left unconcluded. There may be plans to release the remainder of it through OVAs, movies, or anotherTV series, but nothing official has been released as of yet. Maybe it's best to wait until Rumiko Takahashi actually finishes the manga before expecting anything to be done.
