Chapter 11 – Ambushed
“We have been walking here for hours, where the hell is this village of yours?” Jinca asks showing signs of fatigue. “I can hardly see out here.”
“Don’t worry yourself boy, I can still see clearly in the dark with these eyes.” Shinta says from ahead of them.
“I have a name demon.”
“As long as you keep calling me demon you don’t.”
“Settle down you two, how much farther is it?” Secanya says easing the tension.
“Well, we are only a mile away from what I can tell. I say we keep moving.”
“Well it doesn’t really matter what you say now does it.” Jinca says adding to the obvious distaste for the man.
“If you got a problem kid.”
“Yeah I got a problem, what the hell are you doing helping us anyhow. He is probably leading us into a trap to kill us all.”
“Don’t be silly Jinca.” Secanya says. “He had no choice but to attack us back there, he hates Mephisto just as much as we do.”
“Does he?” Luna adds to the confrontation. “He sure has become awfully helpful of late.”
“I don’t need this sh*t, I’ll go after him myself.” Shinta says turning his back on the rest.
“Please don’t go Shinta, look, we are all on edge after the altercation earlier.” Secanya says trying to put the conflict behind them.
“Altercation, he almost killed us all.” Jinca yells back.
“Maybe I should finish what I started.” Shinta snaps back as he becomes face to face with Jinca.
“Go ahead and try it.” Jinca responds removing his sword.
“JINCA, cool it d*mnit. He is in the same boat as the rest of us. We all want Mephisto dead. The best way to achieve this is to work together.” Secanya says pushing the two apart.
-------------
“Whats going on?” Shanna asks confused by all the hostility.
“Well, Shinta here tried to kill us earlier today and….”
“What?” Shanna interrupts. “What kind of friends does Jinca have?”
--------------
“While were on the subject…. How about you be straight with us Secanya? What in the world is a priest doing at a small village a few miles away from mine before it burned? “ Jinca says throwing his rage in all directions.
“What are you trying to say?” Secanya asks beginning to loose his patience.
“Oh, I think you know.”
“Careful, if I were you, I would choose my words very very carefully. “ Secanya says with scolding eyes.
“Please Jinca, thats Secanya, he saved your life, remember?” Luna says grabbing Jinca’s hand. He feels the soft touch of Luna’s hand as it humbled him a bit. “What am I saying?” Jinca thinks to himself.
“Your right, I’m sorry Secanya, if you trust this man, then I guess I should also. And about the village…”
“I know, its just late, we need to get some rest.” Secanya says with a shake of his head.
“Mephisto?” “Torched village? Who are these people?” Shanna thinks to herself as she continues walking behind the two. After about twenty minutes, they reach a larger village as they find themselves alone in the dark. As they scour the shops, they find a tavern with a few candles still lit and make their way inside.
“Ahoy there strangers, what can I do for you folks?” The barkeep yells as they pass through the doors.
“We need a couple rooms please.” Shinta says as he has taken a more human form.
“Sure thing, can I interest you in a drink, or…… Would you gentleman be interested in some company tonight?”
“The rooms will be all, thank you.” Secanya answers before the others could even react to the question.
“Pig.” Luna says as the barkeep laughs a bit.
“Say, you ladies interested in a job?” The barkeep says with a perverted smile.
“Errhhh.” Luna yells as Jinca pulls her away from the counter in fear of Luna’s lethal slap. The three preceed to the rooms as Secanya, Jinca, and Shinta take one room while the two women share the other. The night falls as the sun emerges above the clouds.
“Good Morning” Luna says pulling the shades open letting loose a fury of light blinding the three men.
“What the…. Don’t you know how to knock?” Shinta says rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“I did knock, maybe if you three would answer the door…” She says with a scowl. “By the way, have you seen Shanna anywhere, she’s not in her room.”
