Chapter 14 - Helpful villager
“Get up, we need to keep moving.”
“But Jinca, we just stopped a few minutes ago, I need to rest.”
“He’s right Luna, we need to go, we cannot linger here for much longer.”
The three lift themselves to their feet once more as the start running once more.
“Jinca, you look pretty bad my friend.” Secanya says in stride.
“I’m fine, these last couple days have taken a lot out of me, once we reach somewhere safe and rest a while, I will be fine.”
“You don’t get it do you boy, you may have been able to surpress me for longer then anyone else, but my power is too great for you, if you keep fighting me, it will kill us both.” The voice cries out inside Jinca’s head.
“If that is our fate, then so be it, but I will not let you hurt my friends.” Jinca replies as he slows down to a stop.
“What is it Jinca?” Luna asks by his sudden stop in stride.
“The pain………… its gone!.”
“What do you mean, gone?” Secanya asks puzzeled by the boys response.
“All of it, the headaches, wounds from battle, all of it.” Jinca says with a smile as he begins running once more. One hour passes as Jinca is now carrying Luna on his back.
“How you feeling?” Secanya asks Jinca while attempting to catch his breath.
“Great actually, I never felt better.” Jinca says barely breaking a sweat.
“Don’t you find that a little bit perculear? Secanya asks while still gasping.
“A little, but we didn’t exactly have time to question it did we? Maybe it decided to help since it couldn’t win.”
“I’m not so sure Jinca, just be careful, something about this doesn’t sit well.”
“Right, are we close?”
“Yes, the empire is just up ahead, we should make it by nightfall, how are you holding up Luna? Secanya asks as she just smiles. “Good now that Jinca is carrying me.”
“You always find the good in everything, don’t you Luna?” Jinca asks as the two share a smile.
“you should do that more often.” She replies as they laugh a bit and continue running.
Another hour passes as they reach the outskirts of Gyntana, they decide to make camp just outside the city walls in a local labor village. Labor villages surrounded the empire and were forced to do Mephisto’s bidding. They were mostly made up of decendents to the prisoners taken from past villages he conquered. The people who didn’t volunteer for his army were forced to work as a slave. The 3 blended in quite nicely since it was already nightfall. Jinca and Luna quickly fell asleep while Secanya stayed awake and watched over the two.
“He’s not ready, may god forgive me.” He utters as he removes a scroll from his bag and reads the etchings aloud softly.
“Mosica mosica mosica.” Suddenly a soft blue aura floats around the three in the shape of a bubble surrounding them all. “This should protect us for the night.” He says as he closes his eyes and drifts into a deep sleep.
“Who are they?” “Never seen them before.” “Me either, the short ones kinda cute.”
*blink blink
“AHHHHHH.”
“AHHHHHHHHHHHH” Luna screams as she wakes up. The others return a scream causing Secanya and Jinca to shoot up from a deep sleep. As the yelling fades, they find themselves surrounded by about thirty villagers all simply staring at them.
15 minutes later
“Your Secanya, my grandfather told me stories of you, I used to think the old man was nuts, but here you stand before me now. He told me that you would return to free us all.” A random villager says as many others reach out to touch secanya as if he weren’t real.
“Uhm, you must have me confused with someone else.” Secanya says as he feels embarrassed by all the attention.
“I am sure of it, the cross shaped scar on your face is proof. He met you once a long time ago, you told him to never loose hope, that one day Mephisto would be destroyed and we would all be free….. Has that time finally come?” He asked as everyone stood in silence for his answer.
*sigh
“Your grandfather huh…. I remember speaking to a young boy about 78 years ago, so you’re his grandson huh.”
“So it is true, thank you so much, times have gotten so much worse these last few years, Mephisto has cut our food rations in half and has us working twice as much. Many of our villagers have died from starvation and dehydration. If things don’t get better soon, we will all be dead within the month.”
Secanya simply stared at the villagers pondering what he might say to help put them at ease. They looked as if they were already dead, they looked as if none of them has eaten in days. “We have come here to help you all as I promised.” He says as if it just rolled off his tongue by accident. They all cheered as a noise startled them all. The front gates to the city walls began to open as all the villagers became startled.
“You better hide, those are the soldiers coming to put us to work, if one of us is not accounted for, they will kill 2 of us. The empire has visitors all the time so it should be any trouble for you 3 to squeeze through the front gate. Just say you’re a merchant from the east and they will let you pass.” The villager says as the three run off.
“Thank you, one more thing.” Secanya stops and looks towards the villager.
“Yes sir?”
“Whats your name?”
“Jacobus Arminius.”
“Thank you Jacobus.” Secanya says as the man smiles back in thanks.
----------------
“I can’t believe that worked, thank god we ran into Jacobus huh?” Jinca says as Secanya looks into the sky. “Yeah, thank god alright……Jacobus Arminius huh."
"AMAZING!" Jinca says as the 3 scour the fast paced city of Gyntana. The swalls were constructed of rock with gold statues of mythical gods through out the city. But nothing compared to the temple that resided in the center of the city. It seemed over 2000 feet high and a quarter mile across. never in their lives have Jinca and Luna ever dreamed of seeing something like that.
"It beautiful alright. Thats what 1000 years of oppression built into that castle, remember that as you gaze upon it." Secanya says a bit hastely as he begins walking through the massive crowds of people. Jinca and Luna follow shortly behind as they looked on in awe.
I will cut this chapter off here, tks for reading.
