Chapter 15 - Shattered views
I am gonna try a different form of writing, hope I don't confuse you
Rats...Like busy rats, people scattered everywhere thoughout the city. Slaves pounded away at the boulders constructing another memorial to Mephisto. Merchants scoured around the city in an attempt to sell food and items. Guards were placed in multiple areas throughout the city as if he really needed it; then again, he was hated by all.
[Secanya's perspective]
"Try to keep up, we must move unnoticed." The city sure has changed quite a bit since I was here last. The people, they look so sick, practically walking corpses. Now what am I to do, Jinca needs more time an I... I am not sure if I have the power to make a difference. Heavenly father, watch over my comrades and keep them safe, this is all I ask in the name of the lord. Amen. I open my eyes once more and lead them into a nearby ally as we find a few guards picking on a townsman.
"So your trying to take some food for yourself are you. Wait till Lord Mephisto hears about this."
"Its only a few loaves of bread and a couple tomatoes, please, my family is starving." The man begs as he clings to the side of the building in fear. He was starving alright, he barely had the strength to stand up.
"You greedy peasant, you will be punished!" A guard yelled back as they grab his arms and drag him into the street while taking turns kicking him. He just layed there as if he didn't feel anything, his body bleeding where he was drug into the street. His face, emotionless, except for the few tears he had welled in his eyes.
"We have to help him, he's gonna die!" Jinca yells as he begins to run but I stopped him. "We cannot help him Jinca, if we reveal ourselves, we will be doomed to an even worse fate. Its a sad sight to see, but this is what we are here to stop." I could see the pain in his eyes as he watched the poor villager get beaten. Luna just grabbed Jinca from behind as she was in tears, I can't say I blame her. I have seen these things for so long, I forget how grusome and barbaric it really is.
The villagers head falls to the side in a deep stare, as if he could see me through the mob of angry townsman. They all took turns throwing rocks and clumps of dirt until another guard grabs his wrists and yanked him back to his feet and pulling him to a wooden contraption. It was a stock, he placed the poor mans hands and head inside and lowered the top. Many townsman spit in the mans face as others hit him and walked away. A few women were more compasionate, they took a rag and whiped his face clean and cleaned his body up a bit. The younger woman was crying while the older one simply comforted the child. It then dawned on me, that was his family, that was many families in this village. Tortured and starving, just trying to help their families. So cruel, so very cruel.
Jinca fell to his knees as his mouth simply hung open. "Why wont they help him out, why do they leave him chained up like that?" I stared at the man as his knee's were buckling beneith him. "Because they can't."
"What do you mean?"
"I stared at the blonde girl for a moment and looked back towards the villager. "If they help him, the guards will do the same thing to them."
"Come, we need to find a place to stay, there is someone who might be able to help us out."

[Jinca's perspective]
So many people here, moving at such a fast pace, I can barely keep up.
"Try to keep up, we must move unnoticed" The priest says as I grab Luna's hand and push my way through the hordes of people. That feeling, like a hole in my stomach, ever since I layed my eyes on that castle. He's in there alright, I can feel him. I wish I knew what he was up too.
"He will kill you, he will kill us both. Then he will kill your friends and there is nothing you can do about it." The voice returns in an effort to convince me to release him but I ignored him. Secanya motions us to follow him quickly as we break from the crowd to a nearby ally. There were soldiers there yelling a poor pheasant, he was terrified. He was thinner then anyone I ever seen, much like those people we saw outside the village. They need to be stopped.
"You greedy peasant, you will be punished." the guard yells as I watch them drag the poor defenseless man to the street. The other people, they seemed as if they enjoyed this specticle as he was beaten unmercifly. I can't watch this, I have to do something! I reach for my sword as I begin to move for the street when a hand grabs me by the back of my shirt and pulls me back. What the...
"We have to help him, he's gonna die!" I yelled but Secanya simply stood there with an emotionless stare and responded. "We cannot help him Jinca, if we reveal ourselves, we will be doomed to an even worse fate. Its a sad sight to see, but this is what we are here to stop." He was right, running out there would be suicide, but this was just too horrible. No one deserves this kind of punishment, especially for stealing a few loaves of bread. I watched as they threw rocks at the mans body while laughing. Even the kids threw rocks, so sad. I heard a soft sob as Luna wraps her arms around me softly from behind. Her warmth, her sadness was the same as mine. My eyes couldn't stop watching as the soldiers pulled the man up by his wrists and drug him to a wooden device. They placed his head and wrists in their holes and locked the two pieces together as he was put in front of the entire town, hurt, humiliated, and for what....bread? As I looked into the mans eyes, a sharp sting like a bolt of electricity shot through my spine making me fall to my knees. I was in a phase of shock as I couldn't move from the pain. "I haven't given up boy, your body will be mine, whether you like it....or not. The voice cries out and releases the pain from my back. Though in pain, I couldn't pull my stare away from the villager as two women began to clean him up a bit, but they left him hanging there.
"Why wont they help him out, why do they leave him chained up like that?"
"Because they can't." Secanya responds. I knew what he meant, but Luna coudn't hold back her emotion and asked "What do you mean?"
The priest looked at her for a moment as he fixed his gaze back on the villager. "If they help him, the guards will do the same thing to them."
Of course they would I thought to myself, they have no contempt for anyone here, that much was clear.
Secanya motions to us as he walks down the allyway.
"Come, we need to find a place to stay, there is someone who might be able to help us out."
