Chapter 20 - up the stakes
"He...he saved me." Luna says in shock as the blood ridden body of Shinta forces her eyes open in horror.
"Now I wouldn't say that much, he only delayed the inevitable… After all, he knew the cardinal rule.”
“What’s that…” Secanya asks as if he knew the arrogance that would spew from his mouth.
“No one faces me and lives….no one!”
Secanya was irritated by the arrogance, but he couldn’t ignore the facts. He was fighting a losing battle. Luna was still shaken as she took a seat next to her fallen friend, tears falling on his face like raindrops on a rooftop.
“Bastard….BASTARD!” Luna yells catching the 2 fighters off guard as they notice a chill in the air. The clouds slowly made their way across the sky giving way to rain across the city of Gyntana.
“Rain…it hasn’t rained in this area in months…..” Souta says in disbelief as he stares up into the oncoming water. Secanya reaches out with both hands as if he never felt a raindrop before. Reminds him of the day his father died, it rained nonstop for days. As thoughts of his father filtered through his mind, he suddenly stopped on the moment he held his fathers sword in his hands, the very same sword he holds today. “My power, the power of god will protect you.” Of course, he thinks to himself as he holds his sword out. The sword was now glowing to a bright blue as a surge of power began to vibrate throughout. Souta moves his focus back to Secanya as he notices Secanya seems a bit distracted.
“One shouldn’t day dream in the mitts of battle.” Souta yells as he sprints towards Secanya who doesn’t seem to take notice. The gap closes quickly.
“This feeling, this is it…….”
As Souta makes it to Secanya, he swings his flail with all his power as Secanya slams his sword into it bringing its momentum to a stop.
“What….impossible.” Souta looks on in disbelief as Secanya is holding the sword with one arm. His body is completely engulfed in a blue aura. He grabs the shaft of Souta’s flail as the two are face to face.
“What is this trick, priest?”
“Trick….its no trick.” He says as he continues to stare his enemy in the eye as the sound of ripping cloth sparks Souta’s attention.
In a blast of wind that blows Souta across the rooftop, two enormous wings emerge from behind the priest, they seemed to have a glow of power that would purify anything it touched. It was practically impossible to focus as the light emanating from his sword was brighter then the sun.
“Nifty move you got there, I never would have thought you would become this powerful or I would have finished you off that same day I crushed your fathers heart.” Souta says standing to his feet again with his flail in hand.
“Give up, you can’t win this, not now.”
“Give up, what fight have you been watching, wings or not, I will just have to break them off.”
“Come then, let us finish this once and for all.” Secanya says as he raises his sword in the air like a shining light for all to see.
---------------------
Random villagers began to gather in the city as they began watching the battle from the gates a quarter mile away.
“that light….where’s it coming from?”
“The roof of Mephisto’s castle, there are a couple people up there.”
“Who are they?
“I can’t tell from here.”
---------------
“d*mnit, what is Souta doing over there, he shouldn’t be taking this long to finish the priest. I guess I will have cut his activities short today, we have more pressing matters to worry about.” Mephisto thinks to himself as he grabs his overcoat from his chair and vanishes from his chambers.
----------------
Souta charges the priest in a fury of swings as they are all deflected.
“these wings enable me to move much faster then before, I can keep up with ease now.” Secanya thinks to himself as he trades blows with Souta. When an opening arises, Secanya slams the hilt of his sword into the forehead of Souta and blasts him into a rock wall with a swing of his wing.
Slow to get up, Souta spits out a small pool of blood as he laughs a bit to himself. “Finally, after over a thousand years, an opponent I can fight to the death with. Ha ha.”
Suddenly, his eyes covered in a white glaze and his face began to crumble in pieces across the stone rooftop like sand. Steam, a common characteristic of shakatons who raise their power to its highest rate, began to drift in the air around him.
“Ha ha ha ha I love this feeling…..how long it has been since you have been freed brother. …..so long, ha ha ha.” Souta moans in a foreign voice as only the shadow of his body was visible.
That’s it for this chapter, I hope you don’t mind that my chapters are short, they aren’t as much chapters as they are segments, I feel its easier to write and read when the story is relatively short. That way it doesn’t take up too much time. In all honesty, I probably only have about 10 chapters so far total, anyway, tell me what you think…
