well i started seeing dragonball in 1995, and the z was already there...so it has nothing to do with america, because only arrived in the states years later I think what he's trying to say is that in the original manga, the 'Z' wasn't there. The whole manga was called Dragonball from when Goku first met Bulma, to when Goku flew off with Uub. Only when it was made into an anime, was the 'Z' added to help fans distinguish the story from Goku's early years, and Goku's later years.

Couldn't have said it better myself...Fox is not going to make a movie for just people that have read the manga and seen every episode of every saga (uncut and in japanese) they are making a movie that an average person that knew nothing of the DB world would go and see...DBZ's story is bigger in the US than DBs story and fox is an American company...they are going to make a movie that they think is going to attract the bigger crowds and that is a movie based off DBZ...they really don't care what people like us want...

DB's not super important, so I'd rather get right to DBZ.

You must remember the reason DB and DBZ was so popular is because it was a good story, FOX needs to get off of their highhorse and realize that they are sitting on a goldmine that could be as amazing as say the lord of the rings, the director of lord of the rings didn't make a great movie he just brought an amazing story to life, adn that is what fox needs to do. Quite frankly all of you sound really hyped on this but I dread it for I know that unless someone comes along with some real money this thing is going to be a bust.
A friend of mine who went to brooks film institute for college told me that to create the special effect of a goku transforming into a supersaiyan would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, this woul be just for a few shots, no more than a second or two of film when viewed. FOX isn't exactly known for putting out big budget blockbusters either. If they had even half of a brain they wouldn't have canceled Futurama and they would have had DBZ air after the simpsons, unfortunately those crusty assed executives sitting behind dark desks at FOX seem to think they are still cool guys after being alive for two or three hundred years. I fight to keep the faith alive.

I fight to keep the faith alive. Sorry to tell you man but your friend is wrong. I've created pretty good transformations on a computer that uses windows 98, just by making an animated gif. And if someone had the right software it would not be that difficult at all to do. IF you new what you were doing. I dont know if anyone remembers this old Michael Jackson video called Black or White. Anyway at the end people transformed from one person to the other, hair grew out, hair shrunk back in the head. Go back and watch the end of the video. I remember at the time when that came out during the making of the video they said nothing like that had ever been done before. That was many years ago, and with the technology today a transformation that simply changes the color, shape, and glow of GOKU's hair would be a cake walk, even for someone to make on a home computer. The toughest thing in the movie to do would be the transformations of someone like freiza. Although you can go and watch League of Extrordinary Gentlemen and see a transformation from a little guy to a huge monster. What I'm trying to say is the graphics and special effects for DBZ wouldn't be hard to accomplish at all. But they have to have a great script to back it up. Or its crap. I for one hope they do not make the DBZ movie...YET. Now dont jump all over me for saying that, but everything I have read and the director that is currently inked for it, is basically crap. BEN RAMSEY has made nothing but hip hop gansta movies. he in my opinion is definately not someone I would want writing a DBZ script. Unless hes got something out there that I don't know about. Personally I don't really think there is anyone in hollywood now that could make a good adaptation of the film. However, that doesn't mean that there is no one that can do it.
