aaany way two things basicly what i am about to do is outrage you then calm you down with an intresting question. Ok that being said what the hell is witht he whole the movie is going to start in dragon ball this is a mistake a terrable terrable mistake. Don't get me wrong i got no problem with dragon ball none at all. But when your making a movie thats the first of something you have to be sooo carefull because if your not you will kill the market for that type of movie. Two perfect examples of this that terrable mario bros movie killed the video game movie market we are just now recovering. Same thing happened with camic book movies, way back in the day there was some bad flash and punisher and captain america movies, and now the market is recovering again.
The senario i am imagining is as this the Dragon ball movie its theaters and billions of fans breath a sight of relife. The some what childish aspect of the story shown in previews has caused a loss of audience in the young adult and adult demographic, discuraging new would be fans for the series. the movie is a relative success due to the support of devoted fans and they gear up for the otehr ones. the other movies also fail to atract new audiences because of the reputation spawned from the first movie. This causes a steady decline in the audience and money produced fromt he movies, during the course of X number of DBZ movies.
when it is all over the people up stairs crunch the number then they hmmm and ahhh about the movie and decide that the world just doeset want to see live action anime movies. thus killing the whole idea
and that would suck!! i mean wouldent you love to see some of your other favourite anime turned into live action features?

The same thing happened with Star Wars Epidsode One and thousands of Star Wars fans (Nerds and normal people) Line up in redicoulus costumes for weeks so they can see the next prequel. And remember that normal people go to watch Star Wars too. So the way i figure... Dragonball will be just fine. Don't worry Puck.

First of all the cult fan base alone is enough to make this movie sky rocket on opening day regardless of the saga they start with. I for one am ecstatic that they are starting with dragonball, if it is even true. There is no chance of thier being any new fanbase if they are not able to get to know the characters and where they came from. Take Piccolo for instance. No way can you truly get to know him without watching the dragonball series.
And what childish aspects are you talking about. Yeah the cartoon is a little goofy but plot wise DB and DBZ have some of the most intricate writing on television. And bringing it into live action is going to insinuate a more mature feel to it.
The fact of the matter is we are scared. I am man enough to admit it. Everyone one this bloody forum is in denial if they say they are'nt scared. People are going to see it are they won't. This movie is going to be an, "I loved it" or an, "I hated it" kind a flick.
This movie has so much more riding on it than the typical blockbuster film. This movie is going to make or break live action anime. And instead of whining and moping and taking shots at people who are trying to make the film lets face the facts that its getting made and hope its made right. Perhaps we should try writing letters to fox about how much dragonball means to us rather than what we think they should do with it. Because they are not listening to that.
Dragonball holds the fate of us all and Fox doesn't even f****ing no what thier sitting on.
If you are as big a fan as I am of DB go see this movie on opening day regardless of what the previews look like. Cause even if it sucks we will have showed fox that they were sitting on gold and threw it all away.
But where they start makes no difference to me. I am going to see the movie. Thats one seat.

Do you think those movies would have been as successful if they had started with Episode 1 for the first movie? Anyways....DBZ is more popular around the word, there's still some countries that haven't even gotten DB, or haven't seen the complete DB series...Fox needs to think about this, to make this movie attract the most people from the begginning, they will have to start with DBZ, then people will see how successful it was and they'll get more interested in the other movies. Anyways...I think they are/were planning to start with DBZ, since they own the rights of a website with the name DBZ in it: dragonballz-movie.com

Two things nt to rip on you because you make some good points, but first of all im no so sure the fan base is enough to carry it. simply becasue when you are dealing with big corporations like fox they want to see really big numbers and i don't think we are capable. Secondly Dragon ball could have brillian intelectual writting tackling tough issues, but the fact of the matter remains it's a story about a goofy kid and his goofy friends on a quest no one over the age of 15 what has never heard of DBZ is going to be intrested thats a simple fact. i also agree with the thought that it will not start with dragon ball because it's just not feasible i mean look at it this way every other site on the internet says it starts in saiyan saga and they are saying brendan fraiser is cast as goku and lastly it's a entire searies crammed into one movie? come on it not reasonable to think whey will do one movie of dragon ball and 4-5 movies of dragon ball z theres too much story for one movie

That's still wrong...they should start with the best saga that will help the franchise take on flight from the beginning...that would be the Saiyan Saga...

" Anyways....DBZ is more popular around the word, there's still some countries that haven't even gotten DB, or haven't seen the complete DB series "
I'm not sure about that....countries got the manga before the anime and the manga starts with DB....Dbz starts in the middle of volume 17 (there's no real separation between DB and DBZ in the manga exept for the "5 years later" written in the middle of volume 17)......personnaly I think they should do like 15 minutes in the beginning of the movie telling what happened in DB (important things) and then the movie starts with DBZ.

^They do need to explain some of the events from DB. I just don't want a movie to be all about DB...

That's exactly what I think they should do...and when I said that some countries haven't seen DB, I mean some Latin American countries, maybe others too...it was shown in mine, but I had been talking with a guy from El Salvador who said they had not seen DB...

I don't agree with what a lot of you say on here and that is "they have to explain the past in order to get a new fanbase" I don't believe that they even have to show any of the events of DB to gain new fans and attract people to the movies...
One of the most popular trilogys ever (starwars) started off at the end and didn't do anything really to highlight the past...you knew that darth vadar and obi wan had a past and you find out that vadr is Lukes father....but they didn't show anything about how Darth Vadar was lured to the Dark side, how the Jedi's were whiped out, ect...the series is just now explaining all that...and look at the success the original three movies got...
I think they may highlight some of DB and I think it would be nice...but I don't think it's necessary in order for the movie to do well...people don't have to know everything about the characters to accept the story...you NEVER know everything about any character in any movie you watch...
The background info is what most of us want because we are fans of the series...but like I have said many times before when I was more active...Fox wants what is going to make them the most money and attract people to the movies...they aren't just going to make a movie of the true fans of the series...

I started to read this thread, which has been argued about over and over again, and I pretty much don't care anymore where they start. We have been waiting so long, I just want to see one or the either. If they start out with DB then great. If they start out with DBZ then also great. Just make the dang movie is what I say. Actually if they start out with DB the movie could have a chance of catching on. I don't care what you say, a movie that would explain everthing at the beginning would be more beneficial to fans who know nothing about the film.

I have a thought they could always start with the most important things about DB.Like they explain at the start of the dbz movie where Piccolo came from and who he was to Goku. That would be a good start to the dbz movie I think. It's just a thought though.

I understand why people want them to explain the origins to people in the beginning and such....and I think it would be better...
I am just saying don't be surprised if they don't include any of DB in the first movie...It has been proven that you don't need to understand a characters history in a movie in order for people to like the movie and for it to do well...I can name countless numbers of successful movies that just pick up at a certain spot and don't explain anything that came before it...
I do agree that it would be better for Fox to start off with an intro and they just might start that way...just don't be surpised if they don't...
