I'm currently in the proccess of reading Ralph Ellison's phenomenal novel Invisible Man. If you by any chance assume this tale has to do with the popular horror tale character Invisible Man or Kevin Bacon's Hollow Man, you'd be surprised that this novel touches a different horror, racial discrimination in the early 1900's, a situation that is defnitely more terrifying than any of the horrors those fictional characters could conjure up. The almost 600 page novel follows the escapades of the narrator or "the invisible man" as he tries to find his way into a fickled and perilous white society. Through numerous occurences the narrarator is forced to endure the sufferings that are brought upon him because of his intelligence and situation in society while ambigously trying to find himself. A stellar read, I highly recommend it!

Whoa whoa whoa...it's about racism? That's hella cool. I mean..uh...racism isn't cool but the idea of the book is Heh, yeah it's about racism. The way that Ellison expresses racial discrimination by calling himself "invisible" instead of "black" is a novel ideal. The book itself has some very intense moments such as the battle royale where groups of black men are forced to physically destroy each other and the winner advances to combat one of the premier white fighters. The scene is described horrifically in the book and is only one of the numerous brutal scenes. However, like I said great book.

Hope you enjoy it, be sure to take your time through it though to soak up all of Ellison's metaphors, I'm unwillingly rushing through to get it completed for my research paper, may have to go back an reread this one though.

Have you ever read "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry"? It is another book about racism.
