Halo 3. Yep, we're willing to bet our worldly possessions - which admittedly don't amount to much - that Bungie will deliver a third action-packed spectacular starring the Master Chief. We've had no official confirmation on the sequel's existence from Microsoft as yet, of course, but if recent rumour is to be believed number three in the series could be with us a lot sooner than we think. According to an 'Off the Record' report on IGN, Bungie is not only currently working on Halo 3 (presumably for Xbox 2), but has it in training to strike on the launch date of the PS3.
Current speculation puts PlayStation 3's launch down for 2006, which means, if we follow the rumour to its conclusion, that Halo 3 will be out next year. If true and it's a very big if, it smacks of a smart tactical move by Microsoft to steal Sony's PS3 thunder.
Although we can be certain that Microsoft and Bungie will deliver Halo 3 at some point, back in October 2004 the developer's studio manager Pete Parsons revealed that once Halo 2 was out the door Bungie intended to do "something different", implying that the studio planned to put Master Chief's next adventure on the back burner. Of course it's entirely feasible that it has two projects running concurrently and Halo 3 for Xbox 2 is almost a no-brainer, but until we get an official word straight from the horse's mouth, all we can say is - don't hold your breath.
Fascinating rumour though.

That truly would be an interesting matchup to see which of the two consumers would rather choose. The sequel to a monster franchise, or the continuation of an awesome console line...this makes for great gaming. However, if this was to go down in such a manner...I truly hope Sony has the time to put together a strong PS3 line-up.

Well, developers are already making games for Xbox 2 and developers haven't even recieved developer kits from Sony for PS3 yet, so development on any PS3 game has yet to begin. Take into account that the insides of the consoles are going to be dramatically different as well, which means no more identical multi-format games, we could be in for a major all out battle. At the moment M$ has the advantage with developers as they say the Xbox 2 is easy to develop for, and with XNA, which makes development for Xbox 2 and PC games simultaneous, M$ could have a major advantage with software, which i believe will decide the next gen of console wars.

Of course PS3 games are in development but not with the PS3 development kits as they haven't been handed out. These kits can only be handed out when the specs for the consoles have been confirmed. At the moment, developers are just developing games for high spec PC's. They have a rough idea of what the PS3 can do from the Cell Processor specs. So at the moment there aren't officially any PS3 games in development.

Yeah, I would expect the Xbox to be going strong as the PS3 is coming out for launch. Personally, with great RPG's, FPS, and overall quality of the XBox 2, I will most likely get the Xbox 2 and leave the PS3 on the shelf.
