Grand Theft Auto 4
San Andreas has only been on the shelves for a few months, but Rockstar aren't wasting any time and it seems they're already planning the next title in the series.
The domains GrandTheftAuto4.com and GTA4.com have been registered by Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games.
So the title of the game is definitely Grand Theft Auto 4, and the release will likely be October 2006. No further details have been released, although, the MCV Trade paper believe that Rockstar hinted the location of the next title:
Due for next-gen systems, sources close to the project suggest the team is looking beyond the US for the setting of the next title, with Europe a strong contender. - MCV Hears more info Rockstar actually confirmed GTA4 before ever making the official announcement for San Andreas.
I forget which magazine it was, but they mentioned that Rockstar would be doing one more game with the GTA3 engine (San Andreas) while GTA4 will be developed for the next gen systems (like PS3)
Pre-Production for GTA4 had actually already started before San Andreas was even finished.
Oh and back when the above was stated, it was also stated that the current plot for GTA4 (at that time) was going combine Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas within one game, and the player would be traveling between each throughout the game (through visiting the airports located in each city) and online play seemed to be a defenity as Rockstar had been wanting to take GTA online since GTA3. So what do you think ;D

It all sounds good, but the online play concept confuses me. How would they set it up?

Whoa...that could be a pretty big game if they combined so much! I eagerly await to see the results.

Personally, i think thats BS!!!!
No developer has been given a PS3 dev-kit so they cant even begin to convieve a game for PS3 yet. The only dev-kits out at the moment is that of Xbox 2... GTA 4 will no doubt be on Xbox 2 as well as PS3, but they cant begin to code games for PS3 yet.
The only way is that they have began coding the game for Xbox 2, and with PS3 with a similar capability, port the game over for PS3 and have a multi-format launch for the game.
Although they could be in the concept phase and havent actually coded anything at all...

good to see someone else saw the uncredibility. people believe what they are told. the ideals of it being codsed for xbox 2 is unlikely, but could widen the market, and even the console wars.

I think a game out first for XBox 2 would really hurt the PS3. That would be great for the XBox 2.

I was just saying that it would. I didn't actually think that it would come out on the Xbox 2 first. A late 2006 launch is unlikely. With Rockstar's reputation as having a superb games in this area, I doubt they could finish a game by then. I agree with Trowa here, with a mid 2007 launch or even late 2007 launch because of delays. I am really eager to see what the final spechs on each system will be. I can't even imagine how massive some of the next gen games will be.

The thing is, we saw GTA3 a year into the PS2's life, so imagine that we will see GTA4 a year into the PS3's life when they get to grips with the system. The GTA games are always released around October time so it could be Oct 2006 or 2007. Im going with Oct 2006 as 2007 seems to afr away for me. How will Rockstar make profit during the 3 year gap? I think that San Andreas for PC nad Xbox will make up the profits for 2005, while 2006 see's GTA4 making HUGE profit. From what i've seen, the Xbox 2 and PS3 are going to be nearly identical graphics wise, but when it comes down to proccessor, Xbox 2 easily wins. This means, larger game environments, better AI, better physics and much faster loading times. Like M$ and Sony have been saying, its going to be all about software (games), with PS3 and Xbox 2 being so similar.

Man and you said Square Enix will make games for Xbox 2? That will put a good dent in the PS3. Plus, Rockstar I can't see doing the same thing they are now for long by waiting to put a game out on the Xbox 2. To put the cherry on the top MS owns Bungie and has exclusive deals with Rare. MS is going to really be a contender.
