The Namco-developed GameCube shooter Star Fox Assault will feature three classic games, at least one of them unlockable from the very start, according to Japanese reports and sources IGN contacted. The classics include titles Xevious, Star Luster and Battle City, all developed by Namco for the arcades in the 1980s. Xevious, developed in 1982, puts players in control of a jet armed with rapid-fire and bombs. After aliens invade Earth, it's up to gamers to fly over various terrains, shoot down enemies and bomb structures. Star Luster, which released in 1985, is a first-person-style space shooter. Battle City, which debuted in 1980, is a tank game that challenges players to drive around 2D mazes and blast opponents. Star Fox Assault is a true sequel to the hit N64 game Star Fox 64. Working closely with Nintendo, Namco has created an all-new shooter, but hasn't lost sight of the original design. In Assault, players thrust hero Fox McCloud's trusty Arwing over land and water, but also in space, shooting down hordes of opponents at any given time. The title also features brand new ground missions. And to top everything off, there are also a wide number of four-player compatible multiplayer modes included. The game is set to debut in the US on February 15. *Also I was scourging the net looking for new info on Starfox Assault and Fire Emblem when I stumbled across a whole plethora of screens for both titles take a gander at these awesome Gamecube titles. I think Fire Emblem looks great. I hope it is as good as everyone says it is. But Star Fox looks a little weird though.

Fire Emblem looks ok. Doesnt look like my sort of game though... What genre is it? Stratergy/RPG? Star Fox looks very average...

Fire Emblem is a hardcore RPG/Strategy. Like Advance Wars. But tougher. I am very excited about FE after playing the GBA version. However, there are certain things in FE that I feel should be tweaked to improve enjoyment. I know it is meant to be hard but it gets to a point where it loses enjoyment through sheer frustration.
Between battles opportunity to buy, sell and repair. Especially repair. Ultimate weapons more durable.
More Arenas so levelling all characters to the max is actually possible.
A chance to ressurect fallen comrades.

Yeah, even though I never played Fire Emblem for the GBA I think those ideas should be a must for an RPG. But the Star Fox game looks like the 64 version.

Yeah I remember you said something about it a while ago. Now that I have seen the screen shots I just didn't realize how average the game really was. I'm guessing a 6 to 7 / 10 from most game mags.

Starfox Assault may not look the best, but since when have graphics really mattered and I really don't care what IGN or Gamespot think of the game, alot of people are looking at this one for pure fun value. As long as this game keeps Starfox and friends with the classic gameplay of the originals it will be a great title. Also multiplayer is going to be fantastic, in my opinion another great title for Gamecube.

You need good gameplay for fun, and this gae doesnt have it. Every preview i've read about the game has just been...bad. I think Namco know this as they belayed the game for 6 months, but it doesnt like even that can help this game. Namco have even chucked some old titles onto the disc's as a bonus...Now thats also a sign of a bad game... Its not going to be a great game for GC, just the return of yet another Nintendo franchaise that wont die... Franchaises like Kirby, Donkey Kong and Star Fox are stale. They just dont know what to do with them next. These franchaises have seen bad games over the past year excluding Donkey Kong. Moving onto that, why did Donkey Kong have to be in the drum game...I'll tell you why, because Nintendo fans love playing games with Nintendo characters in them! Its getting out of control... Nintendo need some originality next gen or Revolution just wont appeal to me...

You must be reading the old previews Shadow, the 3 new previews posted by IGN, Gamespot and Gamespy have said the game has made significant strides since last year as well as stating the graphics are sporting a more overall clean look and in your opinion it may not be a great game for the Gamecube, it will definitely be a treat for Gamecubers who are fans of Starfox, and quite frankly there's been a lot of worse games that have been hyped up, fell far from expectations but were still fun games to play. Killzone, Psi-Ops, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, heck even Devil May Cry 2 had its moments. In my opinion, gamers these days have becmome extremely picky in the titles they play and rely on reviewers way too much, if gamers were to purchase just all the 8, 9, 10 games than in the long term they'd end up with some rather small selections. My games consist of over 185 games, and in there I've got all the greats such as Goldeneye, Final Fantasy VII, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shenmue, Zelda series, Mario, and other great reviewed games, to the mediocre ones such as Die Hard Arcade, Virtua Cop, and others that can provide just as much excitement.
Also, how is Starfox becoming stale? There's only been like 3 games, 2 of which were shooters and the 3rd changed the whole Starfox formula, while this one brings in ground based battles. Each Starfox title to be released has changed the franchise each time, it's far from going stale. As for Nintendo reusing it's characters it's a topic thats been talked about time and time again, I think it's time for a little foreclosure on that subject, but I'll save that for later in another editorial. For now let's just say I agree with you and get back to a more positive vibe in this thread.

Well, i guess GC owners will love this game as i see it as more of a multiplayer experience which is something GC lags of late. As for your statement that average games can produce moments of excitement, thats true, but what makes a great game is consistency.
I would have prefered it if Namco stayed to the previous games roots and stayed an adventure game. Although it wasnt a classic, it was nice to play a good adventure game without Zelda in the title...

I see I wasn't the only person who liked SFA, I don't see why so many people despise that game... anyway I don't think the Gamecube has been lagging in multiplayer, unless of course your referring to the online situation. But as far as offline 4-player split-screen goes the system's a winner. Metroid Prime 2:Echoes had a surprisignyl awesome multiplayer mode, though the weapons were a little unbalanced, the game has still got me and my friends huddled over the Cube when not doing Halo LAN parties...

Maybe so, but still I'm not sure how well this game will turn out. But I disagree about Starfox overall getting stale. Like Boss said, there have only been like 3 games on the series. If that logic was used, GTA would be stale and that is far from the truth.
