I thought of something people can do to show why they like the bands they like. Here's how it works:
1: You choose the album you want to review. (duh)
2: You write a description and your opinion of each of the albums tracks.
3: You give each track a score out of ten
4: Give the album an overall score.
I'll start:
Track 1: Cold Cash And Colder Hearts - 6/10
Not a very good opening track, I'll admit. It seems to be a bit out of tune, although there are some decent riffs in there. Bear with me though, it gets better...
Track 2: Under A Killing Moon - 8/10
This is more like it! A very good song with deep, powerful riffs and vocals. More melodic that "Cold Cash and Colder Hearts" as well.
Track 3: All That's Left - 10/10
A fantastic song! This is my favourite on the album. Powerful riffs, powerful drumming, and really melodic vocals, especially during the epic chorus. and if that fails to impress, the titanic climax should have you convinced...
Track 4: Silhouette - 8/10
A darker, heavier song this one. It alternates between the quiet melodic verses and the tectonic chorus. Good if you're looking for something heavier.
Track 5: Stare At The Sun - 10/10
Similar to "All That's Left," except more melodic, and almost as good.
Track 6: Paper Tigers - 9/10
This is the track which shuts up anyone who doubts the power of Thrice. The real appeal here is in the vocals. Dustin Kensue can scream like nothing you have ever heard before. His earth - shattering bellows of "LIGHT THE WALLS OF FIIIIIRRRREEEE!!!! JUST TO WATCH THEM BUUUUURRRNNNNN!!!!" will disrupt your internal organs. ;D
Track 7: Hoods On Peregrine - 7/10
Once again, great vocals, but the riffs seem a bit weak, especially after "Paper Tigers."
Track 8: The Melting Point Of Wax - 9/10
One of the album's better songs. Melodic and heavy at the same time. Also, this is one of the few times I care about lyrics. Very inspiring...
Track 9: Blood Clots And Black Holes - 8/10
Quite disturbing, in a way. The riffs here are similar to those of "The Melting Point Of Wax," but the vocals couldn't be further. a bit depressing, which means this gets marked down a point.
Track 10: The Artist In The Ambulance - 10/10
Another of my favourites. The vocals are great again, and I like the tension in the verses and the release in the choruses. A good climax also.
Track 11: The Abolition Of Man - 8/10
the main appeal here is in the drumming. Riffs and vocals are nothing particularly special I'm afraid.
Track 12: Don't Tell And We Won't Ask - 8.5/10
The perfect album closer. A haunting song all about the ideas behind crime. high score simply because of the haunting - ness
Overall - 9/10
