Authors Note: I hope I don't confuse you with this story since I switch between two main characters in the story. I like the idea of 2 seperate stories that become one, anyway, hope you like this part
Act 3
“Brothers and Sisters, I’d love to welcome you to the holy temple of Miziko… In between prayers, I have been reading the holy gospels, the words of the lord and I feel so sanctified, that I must share with you my revelation. As clear as the sound of my words, god spoke to me….he told me Josiah….like Jesus watched over the faithful, You too shall be the Shepard that guards the sheep of this great planet. As god tested Jobe, we too have been tested brothers and sisters. The plague of war, famine, and sin has stripped the earth of its true gift, do you know what that is good people…. That’s right….The word of god.
And so, with this holy task, I shall build a temple, not for man, but for the lord god.
--------1 hour later at the entrance where the people are departing
“Brother Thomas, if you have a moment, there is something I would like to speak to you about.”
“Absolutely, what can I do for you father?” Josiah answered as he begins taking a walk with John, the man who raised him as a boy.
“I am concerned Josiah, ever since you were a boy, your search for god has been, well, nothing short of a miracle. Its almost as if you have revived Christian faith in the hearts of hundreds around the area.”
“I am confused father, I thought you would be pleased.”
“Of course son, but about your sermon today, you said god spoke to you?”
“Yes father, I was amazed as well, the holy father entrusting this task to me, a mere monk.”
“And he told you to build a temple?”
“Ah yes father… Its going to be marvelous.” Josiah says as he holds the bible to his chest with a smile. “Will you help me accomplish the goals set for me?”
John paused as he thought about the words that played in his head. Has god chosen this gifted boy as his prophet, would it be a sin if I disbelieved my own flesh and blood? He has never lied before, perhaps there really is something amazing about this child.
“Of course my son, it would be my honor.”
“Excellent, together we shall spread the word of god to all as it once was.. This is truly a glorious day.” As the two embrace, Josiah makes his way back into the church as the last of the people have left. Coming to a sudden halt, he hears the sound of prayers coming from the balcony floor. With the exception of Josiah and John, most have left on a journey to Mont St. Michel. The building was one of the oldest cathedrals still standing. The Mont St. Michel (France) was the central place of worship in the area though the high priests still reside in Milon(Italy) where the Milon Duomo still stands. John stayed behind to help his son with mass for the month of the others absence.
Josiah walks up the old wooden steps as the prayers are becoming less faint. As he makes it to the upper balcony, a man is crouched in front of a broken sculpture of the virgin marry. He had destroyed the candles that lied before her. The man had long black hair that stretched beyond his neck. His clothing was dirty as if he hadn’t washed them in a month. His prayers were too faint for Josiah to hear as he walks closer to the man.
“Hello there good sir, have you come to pray to the holy mother?” Josiah asks as he notices no change in the mans demeanor. Its as if the man didn’t hear the words. As he crept closer to the man, a strange feeling came over Josiah, he felt so familiar, his smell, his hair, his presence…..like daja-vu.
“I know this man….but how.” As the words crossed his mind, the man removes a hatchet from his jacket pulling it back with his right arm. Turning his body, he swings it slamming it into his chest knocking the preacher to the floor…
Like a whirlwind or nightmare, Josiah lifts his head from the floorboards to see his chest unharmed and the man gone.
“An illusion….but it was so real…..that face was…..me…..” As he looked over the balcony, the Virgin Mary statue was in tact as it once was, each candle lit as if someone had just prayed before her.
--------------
“Well, that’s the last of them, what shall we do with the bodies?” Michael asks as Lucius holds a cross in his hand while praying before the mountain of bodies. Father...Terrance...Tim....may you find peace in the next world and your spirits guide us through our lives without you.
“We shall burn them, gather what’s left of the supplies and move on.”
“Where, what are we gonna do now?”
“I wish I knew, I say first, we head north down towards old Italy and see what we find there…. Are you with me?”
“Of course, after all, you’re the only family I have left.”
“Then its settled, we leave at dawn.”
I can't put my finger on it, but something draws me there. I must be crazy to think I'll find anything in the city of faith. Hell, a guy like me would probably be burned at the stake if they knew what I have done throughout my life. I hope I don't lead Michael astray, I am not sure I even know what lies ahead for me. May you watch over my friend and protect him as you have for me.
Amen.
