Ok i gotta be honest and step back for a moment and talk no as a DBZ fanboy but as a business man.
Is it just me or is there absolutly no reason for a delay of the DBZ live action movie? the only conceiveable i can think of is a lack of the proper cast members for the film. Other than that theres nothing, nothing at all
lets take a moment to break it down. for each film you need the story location cast and crew and effects ok
well story comes right out of DBZ it wouldent even be an actual script it would be an adaptation of the original script made for the big screen.
next location heres where a little trouble could come in because of the vast vast vast landscapes in DBZ i could understand this taking a moment to decide.
Cast well casting never takes 4 years i don't care what scedual your shifting around no one goes to an actor and says hey we are making this live action adaptation of a insainly popular anime series can we count you in? and then the actor says oh well im pretty booked up get back to me in 5 years. do you have any idea how ridiculus that sounds!!
Crew ...... yeah these people are hard to come by if they are missing a crew they can hire uss to move lamps and cameras and build sets we will do it just stop making us wait.
lastly effects well if any thing many movies that have come out recently have shown up that the technology is there to make a beliveable DBZ movie it's there movies like MATRIX 3, spiderman 2,x-men2 and 1.
the bottom line is there is no excuse for taking this long to go into pruduction pre production should have started like a year after they recieved the rights at the most. the series is more popular now than ever it's a good solid story with nice characters. whats the problem???
they can't make DBZ but they can make like white chicks and the village and are we there yet and tons of other garbage movies but they can't produce an insainly popular series into a big screen adaptation?
come on
and thats my two cents
ps ok so none of the movies i siad came from fox heres a new list
winn dixie and umm well i could go throught that gabage tv they provide fat albert the sequel to speed sooo many

I see where you're coming from Puck but there are reasons. They aren't good but still. NOTE: These reasons aren't from FOX. These are OPIONIONATED Reasons that come from past delays.
1: Simplification: FOX wants people other than DBZ fan boys to understand the movie. 2: Casting: I don't think even we've found a good Goku (I haven't looked at the dreamteam threads in a while so I'm probably wrong) And there are ALOT of characters to re-create! And I know you want a GOOD Goku and a GOOD (Quality, I know we want the BadA**) Trunks! 3: Acuracy: Belive it or not it's gonna be hard to create a movie that's acurate to the series that makes sense to all audiences. Go watch the Digimon Movie and tell me I'm wrong. (And that was animated, DBZ is live action) 4: It's a lot to do. DBZ is a 96 hour series that they're trying to cram into about 18 hours worth of movie time.
But pucklordofchaos is right: this rumor has been spreading since what 2001? This is taking waaaaaay to long!

now i can accept having a hard time casting people but as for drawing in new audiences it's an aliens sent to earth to kill it that fightes other aliens
esetialy the prospect of lots of explosion and kung foo moves will bring in a new audience you think that wouldent be a problem for fox the deal in seseless violence every day they know it sells. and as for the length of the series i hope to god they don't try and cram the whole thing into one moive that would be soo bad.
all im saying is that the excuses for it taking this long are not good enough. this thing was snatched up 5 years ago when the series was hugely popular and still running new episodes in north america. they should have made the movie then.
now we got a problem they still havent made the movie and the series has ended in north america. now when a series ends what was really popluar it's like a train that has been speeding down the track and then it shuts down it's engine. now it just coast on the seed it had but eventually it will stop.
the same can be said for DBZ's rampant popularity now that the series has ended popularity will gradualy wain with little burts every time a ned movie is releced still wainting for that second brolly one.
now when they make the movie one of two things can happen there wil be no popularity left or it will rekindle the original popularity lets hope for the latter
and thats my two cents

I guess, but since they're re-releasing the DBZ DVDs that'll hold people's attention that haven't seen the whole series for a while.

I once downloaded the original uncut Japanese version with Fan-Subtitles and there was a HUGE "Contrast" betwen both versions. So it was no wonder that no one understood anything when they had cut away and edited it a lot.

Alrighty my turn,
The dragonballz movie huh what should I say, maybe because it is a big show they want to make everything perfected, I can understand where the tension is but we got to give these people a break lets see you get dropped with one of the most popular animes ever and try t turn it into an amazing adaptation into real life. I have been a DBZ fan for a long time and personally I don't see what the big rush is. I can't wait to see it but I want it to be good and if it takes a long time for perfection then I can wait.
There is my two cents.
P.S. go to
dbzsc.com
and click on the live action movie details and read the page they also show some effects that may be used during filming.

I'm sure that there are reasons for the delay that no one except for Fox would know about.

Well, considering the movie was put on the shelf for nearly a two years that probably has something to do with it. Not to mention that a script in the works may be news that no longer is the truth. For all we know, Fox may have told Ramsey to forget the script and it just hasn't been reported.

Yeah, it's been about 3 years next month since Fox bought the rights to this movie. Pucklordofchaos has made some points, and he is right. It is taking waaaay too long. Only two things can cause a movie to be this long:
One thing that could cause the movie to take this long is because there is some legal battle going on. A legal battle is basically what caused Spider-Man so long to be made. The rights were first bought back in the early 80's, but the movie wasn't released until 2002. That was because originally Sony, Miramax, and other movie studios were fighting for rights to the movie for close to two decades.
But I seriously doubt that is the case with this movie. First of all, we would know about it. It would be news. Second of all, we know for a fact that only Fox and Fox alone bought the rights to dbz.
The next thing that can cause this movie to take so long is because it is in development hell, and no matter what they do, they just can't get a decent script, director, or budget. But I hope that's not the case...

Well that wouldn't be so bad as long as they don't cancel the project.

I wouldn't say there's ever been a delay...a delay would be like Fox saying that they'll release the movie in a certain date and then they say it'll come out later.
Fox has never given a date for this movie...they just bought the rights to make it...so they can make it when it's right for them. And we don't have to know the reasons, only they will know...they're the ones who make the movies...and if they think it's not the right time to make the movie yet, they won't have to keep giving reports of why they haven't started...

They did the same thing with all the comic movies back in the 70s and 80s! It took them 25 years to finally get the Spiderman movie out and if FOX does the same thing DBZ won't be out until something like 2015! And this is something the public is ready for! If this was the early 90s when DBZ had pretty much just started gaining momentum then the whole live movie wouldn't happen. Point of Rant: FOX has no idea how to make the whole thing work (Like the Marvel movies) and isn't gonna do much about it for a while. Of course with Episode 3 coming out this year FOX should have set the release of DB-Unlimited for this may. Real Point: FOX doesn't know how to do this.
