I didnt see a thread for this. This is to talk about all you know, so Shadow mind if you sticky this? Here is some information I just found out. The sucessor to the PlayStation 2, the PS3 promises to address all shortcomings of the PS2, featuring a 4+ Ghz 64-bit processor known as the "Cell" chip, and a platform that's easy to develop on. The console has yet to be publically unveiled, and is expected to be released in mid-2006.

Uh, this thread is a little early to be stickeyed. Although it will make for good conversation. Anyway, that 64 bit 4 GHz processor sounds pretty cool.

I am going to start saving money in August for the Playstation 3 and when it comes out, I'm sure that I will have a little more than enough to purchase a game and memory card with it. Late 2005/Early 2006 sure is a long time though . I can't wait 'till E3 when they give us more information on the upcoming next gen. consoles. EDIT 3/21/05: Oops, I forgot that the PS3 will have a HD. Guess I won't be needing a memory card then.

Yeah it is a long time. I can't wait to see what they pull out at E3 about PS3 & the other systems. And what other things they are going to show at E3.

The rumor for the processing power of the PS3 is that it will be able to perform 1 teraflop (floating point operations per second).
The current PS2 performs 6.2 gigaflops. This would mean that the PS3 processor is roughly 160 times faster than the PS2 processor. MS claims the next Xbox will also perform 1 teraflop.
The video processor in the PS3 is coming from nVidia and nothing else is really known about it yet.

NEWS!! !!! !!!! NEWS!!! NEWS!!!
Some of this may be a little old or not right.
KOEI Announces PS3 Title for 2006 Japanese publisher Koei has announced one of the world's first PlayStation 3 titles, revealing that it is working on a game tie-in for forthcoming samurai film Oni, which is scheduled for release in 2006. The game, described as a "historical action" title - a genre which Koei, creators of the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors titles is very familiar with - is being created for "the next-generation successor to PlayStation 2," according to the official announcement. It's intended that it will launch alongside the theatrical release of the movie - which is already stirring up interest in the film industry, as it is the directorial debut of Hisao Kurosawa, son of legendary director Akira Kurosawa. Oni (which translates roughly into English as Ogre, and describes a type of malevolent spirit or mythical creature) is set in 16th century Japan and is based on a script by Kurosawa senior, which has been completed by his son. Along with the production of the videogame, Koei has also been appointed to handle the development of other media opportunities for the franchise, including content for mobile phones, books, and music and character goods. While this will be the first time behind the camera for Hisao Kurosawa, it isn't the first time that he's been involved with videogames - he formerly served in an advisory role on Sammy's recent title Seven Samurai 20XX, which was inspired by his father's classic movie Seven Samurai.
PS3 Rival Xbox 2 Details Likely 2005 It has been confirmed Bill Gates will be delivering the keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 5th and it is quite possible, if not likely, that he will use this platform to reveal Microsoft’s plans for the Xbox 2. If Microsoft shows its hand too early it could give Sony time to come up with a response. However, the news might create some useful pre-launch hype for the next Xbox. Either way it’s looking promising for some solid Xbox 2 news in January.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on PS3
It has been announced on the Official Elder Scrolls website that the next installment of the game, dubbed Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is currently being developed for PC and “future generation consoles” (PS3 is almost definitely included in this). Bethesda Softworks, the firm developing the game, started work on it in 2002 and are likely to have started immediately after the release of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowin. The world-exclusive details on Oblivion will be published in the October edition of Game Informer. It is expected that the Elder Scrolls franchise will stay consistent in their deliverance of games featuring high quality graphical art and powerful 3d engines, and this has been substantiated through the in-game art featured on the Game Informer cover
Mortal Kombat 7 Planned for PS3
CEO of Midway Games, David Zucker, revealed to attendees of the RBC Capital Markets North American Technology Conference that the seventh installment of the Mortal Kombat series is planned for the PS3, Xbox 2 and an unknown wireless platform.
The announcement comes as somewhat of a surprising, seeing as none of the platforms have even been officially detailed yet.
No further details, such as a release date, were given. We will keep you up to date with the latest information regarding the game’s progress.
Sony Confirm Blu-Ray for PS3
It is official: Sony will be using Blu-Ray technology in its next PlayStation console. The announcement, which confirmed what we all knew already, came during a meeting between Sony, Dell, Panasonic and many others held in Tokyo this week.
The new format holds 5 times as much data as its DVD rival, and is expected to become the predominant medium for digital media over the next few years. Blu-Ray technology will be able to play existing DVD discs, so films and PS2 titles will still function on the PS3.
DTS Surround Sound for PS3
Digital Theater Systems have announced that the DTS Coherent Acoustics Surround sound format will be a "mandatory audio technology" for Blu-ray discs, which Sony recently confirmed will feature as the medium for the PlayStation 3.
Given the rivalry, Dolby is also more or less certain of supporting the Blu-ray disc format - hopefully giving Sony supporters some much needed Dolby Digital 5.1. Whatever happens, PS3 should be well equipped for surround sound options.
Although DTS is probably lesser known than Dolby's Digital and Pro Logic II solutions, it's nevertheless respected in the DVD sector and a number of PS2 games including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City support it, although Pro Logic II now seems to be more prevalent.
PS3 Listed on Japanese Amazon
The Japanese branch of Amazon has created a product page for the PlayStation 3, more than a year ahead of the consoles expected debut.
The page contains no photos or new information, nor does it allow advance orders to be placed just yet, however this hasn’t stopped visitors from posting 5 star ratings already.
While Sony executives are remaining tight-lipped about the details regarding the PS3, eBay has been subjected to numerous fake auctions from people claiming to know all the secrets – and in some cases even to have a model of the console already.
We will keep you informed of any changes regarding this story.

LOL, I really can't understand why anyone would think they could actually get money from something like that on ebay. But in all reality there are probably people who would do that.

Well, I know it doesnt make sense, you can really buy it easier from a store, but for some reason there are people who actually but it from there dont know why.
But what I really like is the DTS Surround Sound , nothing like that type of sound when you're playing a game.
