Then you will go to a movie that only dbz fans will see and no one else. So that is why things will be changed..... True, you have to make the movie appealing to the general audience. I feel like they should keep as most from the original anime as possible. But talking animals and the customes from the anime is NOT POSSIBLE. I want the movie to be close to the series but not 100% what I saw in the series.

Like I said, the animals could just be around as pets. The costumes, however, seem okay. I think a few things could be changed but otherwise a similar style should be utilized.

Do you think they should have a similar style to X-men in terms of the costumes they wear? What should the saiyans look like. And how are they gonna do the hair? The hair makes a lot of the appearance what it is.

Um the costumes in my opinion should be a mixture of the original costumes and what they did with the XMen movies. And as for the hair, it should probably be shorter but most likely the same.

Just because you stick to DBZ and don't change it just for the sake of changing it doens't mean that people won't come. Think of all the movies that are unrealistic in our world but still do well. Star Wars is an unrealistic movie with Jedi and big talking harry aliens but people still rush out to see it.
I don't think a movie has to fit in with our reality in order to be live action. We aren't talking about a reality movie we are talking about a DBZ movie and if people aren't going to come to it because there is a talking cat then they aren't going to come to it at all.
Think of all the movies out that are just about animals that talk...there is a new movie that is coming out that is about talking race horses and what about Mr. Ed?
I guess what you have to do is seperate DBZ from what we know as reality because it is NOT what we know...it is the DBZ world and it shocks me to see some of the same people that are saying they need to start with DB just because the story started there are saying that they need to cut some elements of the world because they aren't realistic...
Talking animal and dinasaur movies they have done...movies with people that fly and shoot energy blasts from their hands haven't...the latter is more unrealistic if you ask me...

You are comparing two completely different themes. Before you make a stupid argument, look at the facts. 1. Where does the dbz take place? Earth, therefore it removes the fake aspect of a "dbz world" and dips into reality. The fact you compare it to the movies you listed is stupid. Starwars takes place in a completely different galaxy in a completely different time which enables them to change certain aspects of their surroundings. The talking "animals" are aliens, beings from another planet, not earth. The galaxy is set up that everyone is capable of space travel where dbz is not. Only the z-fighters can space travel while the rest of earth can not. The fact that dinosaurs exit and just roam around on earth which is supposed to be more technilogically advanced then now is silly. Humans would never let them just wander around possibly harming numerious people. If they did exist, it would have to be in a confined manner like a zoo or something of that sort. Talking animals is also dumb. What reason would there be for talking animals on earth? None at all. The fact you compared tv comedies to this movie is retarded. The whole basis of those shows you mentioned was for comedy purposes only and were not meant to be serious. Almost every show with talking animals sets it to the fact that people and animals could not interact with one another, only animal to animal or people to people. (Except dr. doolittle which was also just a comedy) and look how the 2nd movie bombed there also. You just have to look at this logically. Why the hell is it so important to have these lame additions just because it was like that in the cartoon. Cartoons are made to defy reality, when made into a movie, it must find a happy medium to avoid cheezyness. If I see a bunch of crap that would defy human nature (dinosaurs, talking animals for no reason, or the fact that they wear a cloth karate gai over protective armor) will just be silly to me preventing me from watching it a second time. And I am a fan, if I don't recommend it, then why would someone who isn't even a fan see it?

if your arguing to take out that stuff because they live on a planet called 'earth', then you have no good argument, its that simple.
your obviously not a student of creating things such as i am, or you would know that you are wrong. Anything can be dumb if its done wrong, regardless of medium. In the case of the manga and animation, it was done right. so why change success when converting the story to another medium? theres no reason to.
the FACT is that these extras are what make it a unique world and story. creativity and imagination enable you to change whats real in a fictional story, not setting. humanoid animals and living dinosaurs may not exist in our world, but they exist in dragon world whether you like it or not. flying humans and ki blast dont exist, kami/god doesnt exist, people with tails dont exist, should they be taken out as well? no, because each is a creative fiber that makes the story and the atmosphere of the world what it is.
I dont even want to hear about what you think of a giant talking dragon that grants wishes.

And I am a fan, if I don't recommend it, then why would someone who isn't even a fan see it? Well, I don't agree there. It's like any other mythical Earth (LOTR), or when they create ficticious places in a movie (Krakozhia in The Terminal). I think Grendel was right with his argument. But that's not the reason I don't want talking animals in the movie. I just don't want them in the movie coz I never liked them on the anime. You know, they'll try to make this be a serious, epic movie (at least I hope they do), talking animals would ruin it. But I would like to see dinosaurs, flying cars and other stuff that makes up the DBZ world without making it looks childish for an epic movie.

I dont even want to hear about what you think of a giant talking dragon that grants wishes. I just touched on the issues mentioned. You made no arguement against my claim accept for the fact that other aspects mentioned should be included. I am speaking on human behavior, not human capabilities. You speak of ki, etc. When I spoke about dinosaurs, I simply explained a proven fact that humans fear what they do not understand or what they have no control over. Are you gonna tell me that If 30 foot dinosaurs lived near you, you wouldn't fear them? Bullsh*t, humans would never let dinosaurs live uncontrolled on any land and thats a fact. You want to get into different aspects of unrealistic situations such as tails, dalking dragons, ki blasts, etc. I never even touched on those for you to make an assumption on what I think or feel. Now that you mention it, a talking dragon doesn't quite add up either but it can also be simulated as a genie taking the shape of a mythical creature. I understand that many things are considered sacred in the dragonball world, but its clear that certain aspects of this anime is not made to be real. You can argue all you want, but when the movie is finally made, I will be the one telling you... "I Told You So" If I am wrong, then the movie will only be popular with little kids. As far as creativity goes, you have no idea what your talking about. I bet your the type that watched hero and thought it was a revolutionary step in art in cinema. Believe what you like, if we all believed the same thing, this thread wouldn't be 3 pages. The main fact of my argument, I am looking at this from an older persons view. No grown up besides superfans will see this movie if they stick to the same details as the cartoon.

I agree with the both of you. But if you do make comparisons to other movies I do believe the DBZ movie can have certain aspects that don't really add up. Just look at various movies that have happened here on earth that have still been tremendous successes at the box office. Almost all comic movies, LOTR, Ghostbusters, etc. have been set on earth and still did incredibly well at the box office. But removing such things as the dragon and other aspects would make the movie even more dumb then if those things had been left in. But other points of the movies such as dinosaurs walking around in your backyard and Oolong being the only known talking pig on earth would come off as weird.

And I am a fan, if I don't recommend it, then why would someone who isn't even a fan see it? You totally took what I said out of context and warped it into...well I don't know what. The fact that this is set on "earth" has nothing to do with what I was saying and has nothing to do with my argument. I am saying that talking animals aren't too fantastic for the movie to turn out well and that Flying people that shoot energy from their hands would be more fantastic to most people. It has nothing to do with the movies I compared it to...those were just to show that people have accepted fantastic concepts (which I can see some clearly didn't understand) If you don't want talking animals in the movie because you didn't like them in the anime then that is fine because at least you are being consistant. I am just talking about the posts I have read that say that talking animals are too fantastic and wouldn't seem unrealistic...when in fact we are talking about an entirely fantastic and unrealistic movie. The "earth" used in DBZ is not our earth so just because it is set on earch means nothing because we aren't talking about our earth. Once again I will point out that the movies I used may have had nothing to do with DBZ but I wasn't comparing them in that manner...I was just using those movies to illustrate that people do go and watch movies that include talking animals and fantastic concepts...hopefully that is clear now... I just want them to keep as true to the original as possible...talking animals don't bug me because I can differentiate between the DB world and reality...I am not going to watch it and compare it to my life I am going to watch it soley for entertainment...DBZ is a fantastic concept and if you don't accept everything that is fantastic about it then you aren't doing it justice...at least that's my opinion...the creator made the world as it is for a reason...I will still love it if they change everyone to humans but I don't think it will be doing full justice to the original **Ohh and I am no little kid**

ha, you made your point clear, I wasn't trying to bust your chops, I just try to prevent the people from wanting another horribly transitioned movie. There have been movies in the past that stayed very closed to the original story and they turned out extremely cheezy. The only argument that I was making was to avoid unnecessary costs for secondary details. They will have a lower budget for this first movie until its proven it can be a cash cow. If they spend excess budget funds on wandering dinosaurs and talking animals when they hold no other point other then the fact that they were in the cartoon would just be a waste of money. They can easily replace some of the strange things like that without compromising the story any. As a dragonball fan, I consider myself very consistant on one fact. The details are not what makes me watch it, its the storyline and character development. The source and strength of power is also important and probably responsable for its popularity. But I completely understand your view and once again, this is probably why this movie is having so much trouble getting off the ground. Its just hard to decide whats important enough to use and whats not.....

Next time you argue, guys, please put it in paragraph form, I think I went crosseyed halfway through and gave up from blindness.. LOL true, very true. Um in my opinion, the costumes of course can't be too bright and colourful. In the Xmen cartoons they were all vibrant etc so on the big screen they toned it down into a kind of uniform 4 the X-men to wear, but every1 knows that already. But in the DBZ movies, I think, they can't make the Z fighters have a uniform coz it would just be too wierd and the Z fighters aren't THAT much of a team. Maybe if Gohan/Piccolo's outfit weren't too purple and leaned towards a darker colour in between purple and blue maybe? And maybe Goku's clothes were a darker orange but not too dark. Anyway Oolong/Puar don't have that much of a role in DBZ anyway neither do the dinosaurs except 4 wen Gohan is in the wilderness and possibly wen Goku helps them or woteva but that doesn't have to be in the movie. And do you think they would show the 'resting' period of the Cell games? Or weneva Goku catches a giant fish? Ok this is getting too long, hope i didn't sound too stupid on this post thingy coz all of you are a lot smarter than me, thats the impression i get anyway. And maybe, just maybe you all should just settle down a tiny bit. But DBZ is the greatest TV show/anime EVER, go it! And also Akira Toriyama, ur cool 4 such a great idea. Ok Im going now, finally you all say, BYE ;D
